Happy New Year!

Well 2014 is well and truly upon us! A little soggy but we must stay positive and pray to be spared the snow. A few new horses added to the team.
Louise Danton’s Brownscombe Francisco, a 7 year old bay gelding by Fontaine Bleau. A complex character that has taken a year to develop. It has been worth the wait as he qualified for the Novice Open Winter regionals with consistent scores of 74%. I will be trekking up the country to Myerscough Regionals at the end of February. Our aim for this year is obviously to get a National ticket, and qualification for Elementary Summer Regionals. A serious prospect for the future.
A new addition is Uppergraig Black Flyer, Mac as is known to us, is a black welsh section D gelding owned by Tracey Young. Her daughter Abbie is in the middle of exams, so the decision was to base him at my yard to compete over the winter. I have competed him since November 2013 and in that short time we have qualified for the Novice Open Winter Regionals and also the Novice Open Summer Regionals. He really is a fabulous little horse, I call him my mini Valegro! Such a quick learner with bags of potential. Our aim next is to secure Elementary Open Regional qualification. You may have seen our picture in the Horse and Hound a few weeks ago.
The next new one is Colour Trento M, ‘Tonto’ is a 7 year old skewbald gelding by the popular stallion Trento B. He is owned by Sue and Richard Cook. A very lovely horse with a real future ahead of him. He has been in training with me since July and is hopefully up for sale in the Spring. He has super talent for the more advanced work and is a real pleasure to train. Our plan was to get him qualified for Elementary Regionals, then sell him with the ride.
Gucci is a black 4 year old Hanoverian gelding by Del Piero owned by Marian Ash. He was purchased at the Brightwells Auction in December 2012 as a 2 year old stallion. Since then he has been backed and gelded, and now been in training with me since the start of October 2013. A fabulous little horse with the most super temperament. He is possibly the most well behaved young horse I have ridden. The aim is to get him out to some venues this month to ‘see the world!’ then compete in the Young Horse classes this year. A very exciting young horse for the future and I am very much looking forward to training him.
Hermani, is a 6 year old Hanoverian gelding owned by Kath Ackroyd. I have been training Herman since a 4 year old, we have taken it slow, allowing him to mature and grow. He now looks very strong and is performing well. Winning the Regional Area Festival Championship at Novice Open, thus qualifying for the Nationals at Hartpury in April. The plan is to keep training and competing him this year with a view to Kath taking the reins when she feels ready.
My clients are all coming along nicely! With some hard work and dedication over these gruelling winter months, I look forward to getting them all out competing in the Spring.
Louise Danton recently purchased a fantastic mare at the Brightwells Auction in December 2013. A 3 year old mare who I believe was on the wish list for many people that night! Watch this space in the 4 year old Young Horse classes this year.
The Wheatland Pony Club ended a very successful summer last year with 2 combinations qualifying for the Pony Club Championships. However the hard work doesn’t stop there, so onwards and upwards with the training over winter. I’m looking forward to watching all the up and coming combinations this year. Good luck Wheatland!
With a great team of horses and owners behind me this year what’s not to look forward to, keep your eyes peeled for results! Thank you for reading!!
